The Great Downtown Pumpkin Plunder

Saving Downtown Hartsville. One Pumpkin at a Time.

The Great Downtown Pumpkin Plunder is a brand-new, fall-themed scavenger hunt happening right here in the heart of Downtown Hartsville. Designed like a vintage comic book mission, this event invites families, friends, and fans of fall to solve clues, explore local shops, collect rewards — and help break a mysterious curse threatening our town.

It’s part scavenger hunt, part shop local campaign, part Halloween fun — and 100% community-powered.

Ready to accept your mission and join the Pumpkin Plunder?

Participants will receive a Mission Kit that guides them through three connected missions:

Mission 1: The Power Pumpkin Hunt
Follow a trail of clues through participating downtown businesses to locate hidden Power Pumpkins. Each one represents a stolen superpower from a cursed scarecrow hero. Collect super powers as you go and help restore the strength of our superheroes.

Mission 2: Stamp Out the Curse
For every $10 spent at participating businesses, earn a stamp in your Mission Kit. The more you shop local, the more power you build to fight back against the villain behind it all — Professor Hollow!

Mission 3: Match the Hero Powers
Some scarecrows downtown aren’t ordinary decorations — they’re cursed heroes frozen in disguise. Your mission is to uncover which scarecrow once held which superpower.

For every mission you complete, your name will be entered into a drawing for $100 in Main Street Money. Complete all missions and receive a Certificate of Heroism.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, begins at the Key, located at 147 W. Carolina Ave. Hours of operations are Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm. Visit our head quarters to pick up your mission kit and begin your quest to collect the power pumpkins and restore our superheroes.

This event is family-friendly and FREE to participate in, though purchases are encouraged to support local businesses. Whether you're a kid solving pumpkin clues, a parent shopping downtown, or a comic book lover — there's something for everyone.
