In October 2023, Hartsville, South Carolina, was officially named South Carolina’s 10th designated Cultural District by the South Carolina Arts Commission. This honor recognizes a vibrant area in downtown Hartsville filled with artistic, historic, and cultural experiences, all within walking distance.

Facilitated by Main Street Hartsville, in partnership with the City of Hartsville and Black Creek Arts, the Hartsville Cultural District spans approximately 10 blocks. It includes portions of the Main Street Hartsville District, the Parking, Beautification, and Business Improvement District, and much of the central B-1 district. The area is bordered by Coker University to the east and surrounding residential neighborhoods.

This dynamic downtown district features:

  • 12 indoor live performance venues

  • 5 event spaces, including an outdoor stage

  • 10 galleries and art exhibit spaces

  • 25 murals and public art installations

  • 45 historic landmarks

  • 5 green spaces and arboretums

  • 1 historic museum

  • Over 150 creative industry and cultural jobs
