Farmers Market

Vendor

Vendor Categories

All vendors and products must be reviewed and approved by Market staff. Vendors must qualify in one of the following categories:

  • A Farmer is someone who grows produce, plants, botanicals, or raises animals on land they own, lease, or rent in the State of South Carolina or bordering counties.

This category also includes individuals who process fruits, vegetables, berries, botanicals, meats, honey, and other agricultural products that are grown, raised, or harvested on their own property, or sourced within South Carolina or bordering counties, and turn them into value added products.

Examples of value added products include jams, cider, salsa, vinegars, alcoholic beverages, essential oils, and other botanical-based goods.

  • A Ready-to-Eat Vendor offers freshly prepared food for sale and immediate consumption at the Market.

Vendors in this category must obtain and maintain all required State, County, and local Health Department permits before participating. Whenever possible, ingredients sourced from South Carolina should be used.

All Ready-to-Eat vendors must comply with current DHEC regulations prior to applying and while operating at the Downtown Farmers Market. If a DHEC inspection occurs during the Market, vendors are responsible for providing proof of compliance.

Responsibility for meeting health regulations remains solely with the vendor, not with the Hartsville Downtown Farmers Market or the City of Hartsville.

  • An Artisan or Craftsperson is someone who personally creates the products they sell using their own skill and craftsmanship, or provides a skilled craft service at the Market, such as on-site knife sharpening or tool refurbishment.

To qualify, the majority of the tools and equipment used must require hands-on skill, personal handling, and creative manipulation, not mass production. All products must be created in South Carolina, and vendors are encouraged to use materials grown or produced within the state whenever possible. Any artwork, regardless of medium, must be 100% original and designed by the artist.

  • Qualifying organizations must hold recognized charitable legal status, operate on a nonprofit basis, and at the Market’s discretion, have a mission that benefits the broader community.

Community non-profit organizations are free to solicit donations. Community non-profit organizations MAY, at the discretion of Market management, sell promotional and other products to raise money for their organization. All products for sale must be approved by Market management at least two weeks prior to the organization's scheduled Market date.

Products must not compete with the Market’s Farmers, Ready to Eat vendors, or Artisans and Craftspeople. To accommodate the growing market, all non-profits/churches will be placed in Burry Park. Failure to show at Market without previous notice forfeits any future registrations.
