Downtown Hartsville Steps into National Spotlight!

Hartsville, SC — Main Street Hartsville is honored to announce it has been selected to host the Main Street America Community Transformation Workshop from October 13–15, 2025, marking the very first time this prestigious program will take place in our city and the state of South Carolina.

“We are thrilled that Hartsville was chosen to host Main Street America’s national workshop this October. The Main Street team was selected through a competitive process that demonstrated their readiness, commitment, and ability to welcome over 50 downtown revitalization experts from cities and towns across the country. This workshop will provide Hartsville’s team with local market data and strategies to support their Main Street initiatives. The knowledge and connections gained will not only help guide Hartsville’s team, but also inspire communities across South Carolina and beyond. This event marks an important milestone for our state. It places South Carolina in the national spotlight, showcases the strength of our Main Street network, and connects local leaders with innovative approaches that boost local economies and highlight the vital role downtowns play in our communities.” — Jenny Boulware, State Coordinator, Main Street South Carolina.

This three-day event will bring together nearly 80–90 Main Street program directors and revitalization professionals from across the country to explore fresh ideas, share experiences, and learn strategies to help historic downtowns thrive. Participants will gather in Columbia, SC for classroom-style sessions on Monday and Wednesday, led by national experts in downtown revitalization. On Tuesday, attendees will travel to Main Street Hartsville for immersive field excursions showcasing how our community is putting revitalization strategies into action.

The Community Transformation Workshop blends hands-on projects, expert-led instruction, and peer-to-peer learning, giving communities the chance to exchange practical tools and success stories. By highlighting partnerships and creative problem solving, the event helps Main Street communities nationwide discover innovative ways to strengthen local economies and create vibrant downtowns.

While in Hartsville, workshop attendees will meet directly with local business owners and city officials to hear about our unique opportunities and challenges, bringing an authentic, on-the-ground perspective to their learning.

The Hartsville community is invited to play an important role, as well. Beginning July 12th and running through August 16th, residents, visitors, and supporters of Main Street Hartsville will be invited to complete a short community survey to share their thoughts about downtown Hartsville. These insights will help guide workshop conversations and shape the district’s future plans.

“Hosting the Community Transformation Workshop is an incredible milestone for Hartsville,” said Matt Winburn, Main Street Manager. “This is a chance to showcase our historic downtown, learn from some of the best in the field, and invite our entire community to help shape what comes next.”

Supported by the City of Hartsville and powered by the strength of community involvement, Main Street Hartsville enhances, promotes, and preserves Downtown Hartsville as a vibrant, diverse, inclusive, and sustainable destination for the benefit of the entire community.
